Fans are bored of waiting for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to hit theaters.
Bored of staring at the release calendar.
Samsung decided to fix that. On Tuesday morning. They dropped a tease for SpideyTracker.com.
It isn’t just another landing page. It claims to “bring to life” a piece of the movie that actually exists within the MCU universe.
Here is the setup. Peter Parker’s friend Ned Leeds built a site in the trailers. Its purpose is to help New Yorkers find Spider-Man. Real-time locating.
Samsung’s devices. The Z Flip, Z Fold, the Watch. They are in those trailers. They want you to know. Now they are making Ned’s fictional tool real for anyone to use.
The collaboration aims to bring the spirit of ingenuity and connection to life.
Marketing speak, sure. Peel it back though. The idea is simple. Spot Spidey at a live event. See him in a fan video. Report it. Follow along on the site.
There is a pixel-art map. Cute, probably. You get notifications too. It keeps you in the loop until the film debuts. A video dropping Tuesday should explain the mechanics. Or try.
Have you noticed this happens with superhero media now? Apps for everything.
Sony tried it. The PlayStation games. Miles Morales and Peter Parker joined the “superhero gig economy.” There is an app for it. Built by Miles’ friend Ganke. Let you report crimes directly to the webslingers.
Ned in the movies is basically Ganke from the games. Different names, different continuities. Same job. The “guy in the chair.”
He just spins a different kind of web this time.
Does it matter if it works?
