No Pro Skills Needed
It happens fast. In seconds, actually. Google Photos is launching Video Remix, a new feature that transforms raw footage with a simple tap. Powered by the Gemini Omni model, it promises to turn any input into something recognizable, even if the output is radically different.
This isn’t an accident. Google is doubling down on generative AI across its consumer apps. They are competing directly with Apple, Adobe, and OpenAI. The strategy? Lock you into their ecosystem by making editing effortless. Why use complex desktop software when you can do it right in the photo album.
You find it under the Create tab.
Want cinematic lighting? Done. The AI brightens dark clips. Boring background? Swap it out. Or just paint over your reality with styles like oil painting or watercolor. Raw sketchbook looks are also an option. You can make a mundane walk in the park look like a morning greenhouse scene. One tap.
“Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professionalskills or hours of editing,” says the announcement. “Now, you can transform ordinaryvideos into share-worthy moments.”
That sounds good on paper. Is it good in practice? Maybe. That’s the gamble.
Video Remix rolls out today. Not everyone gets it yet, though. You need an AI subscription—Plus, Pro, or Ultra—and you need to live in specific countries.

If you’re lucky, it’s already there. If not, wait a week. The app feels heavier now, cluttered with features most people ignore, but the AI is sticky. Once you use it, going back to manual editing feels… tedious.
So what’s next?
