Solos is doing it again. They stripped the cameras right out of their new smart glasses.
Call it a retreat or a pivot. Doesn’t matter. The result is the AirGo A6 and it barely exists on your face.
Remember last year’s AirGo A5? Heavy clunky thing. It weighed somewhere between 36 and 40 grams depending which frame you picked. Thick temples housing speakers batteries and whatever other silicon they could shove in there.
The A6 is a different animal entirely.
Around 19 grams. That is nearly half the weight. You probably won’t feel it until you take it off. For perspective the Meta Glasses they announced last month are sitting around 54 to 60 grams. The Meta set feels like actual eyewear. The Solos set feels like nothing.
No pricing yet. No final launch date. But here is what you know. They support full prescription lenses. Good. Most tech companies forget people need vision correction. Solos isn’t forgetting. They even made some frames transparent so you can see the electronics buzzing inside. Weird. Fascinating. Kinda scary if you squint.
It is an audio experience. No video feed. Just an AI assistant talking to you through voice commands. It answers questions. Translates languages in real time. Yells at you when you are about to miss a meeting via calendar reminders. The speakers sit behind your ears which means you can hear your music or take that phone call but still notice when someone talks to you. It leaves the world open.
It is designed for voice first. The world remains visible but silent unless you want otherwise.
Solos isn’t done though. They still care about the folks holding last year’s AirGo V2. The ones with the cameras. Privacy is a hot topic after all. Who wants their face broadcast on the internet? No one. So they launched a shield. Literally a clip that covers the lens so it sees nothing.
The accessories cost money but they are reasonable.
- $39 : Transparent non-powered temple replacements in various colors. Just swap out the side bars.
- $49 : That privacy shield bundled with clip-on sunglasses for UV protection and less glare. Practical.
- $79 : The whole kit. Privacy plus style plus eye protection.
The V2 gets a second life here. The A6 gets the spotlight for being light enough to forget you are wearing technology.
Is privacy more valuable than vision? Maybe. Or maybe Solos just figured out that carrying a camera around attracts too much attention. The A6 flies under the radar. It asks questions. It translates words. It listens. It doesn’t watch back.
For now anyway.
